Research Focus and Aim
獣医公衆衛生学研究室ではVibrio vulnificus および Aeromonas hydrophilaといった病原細菌を対象に研究を行っています。 これらの細菌による感染症は、感染後わずか数時間以内に腫脹や疼痛などの初期症状を呈し, その後、急速に進行して壊死性軟部組織感染症などの重篤な病態を引き起こすことが知られています。 場合によっては敗血症に至り、致死的な経過をたどることもあります。 本研究室では、こうした感染症において認められる急激かつ重篤な病態がどのようにして引き起こされるのかに着目し、 宿主側の反応と細菌側の因子の両面から、その分子メカニズムの解明を目指しています。 特に、病態形成に関与する細菌の病原因子や、 それらが宿主内でどのように機能し、感染の進行や組織障害を引き起こすのかについて解析を行っています。 これらの研究を通じて、侵襲性感染症の理解を深め、 将来的な感染症制御や予防戦略の基盤となる知見を提供することを目標としています。
The Laboratory of Veterinary Public Health focuses on the study of pathogenic bacteria, particularly Vibrio vulnificus and Aeromonas hydrophila. Infections caused by these bacteria are characterized by an extremely rapid clinical course. Initial symptoms, such as swelling and pain at the site of infection, often appear within a few hours, followed by rapid progression to severe conditions including necrotizing soft tissue infections. In some cases, the disease can advance to sepsis and become life-threatening. Our research aims to elucidate the mechanisms underlying the rapid and severe pathogenesis observed in these infections. We investigate both host responses and bacterial factors to understand how these pathogens cause extensive tissue damage and systemic disease. In particular, we focus on the identification and functional analysis of bacterial virulence factors that contribute to disease progression, as well as their roles within the host environment. Through these studies, we seek to advance our understanding of invasive bacterial infections and to provide a scientific basis for future strategies in infection control and prevention.

研究に真剣に取り組むためには、研究室にいる時間の長さよりも、 限られた時間をどのように使うかが重要だと考えています。 オンとオフの切り替えを大切にし、メリハリのある生活を送ってほしいと考えています。
また、本研究室では、研究以前に社会人としての基本的な姿勢を重視しています。 時間を守ること、挨拶をすること、身の回りを整え、掃除をすることは、
円滑な研究活動や良好な人間関係の基盤となるものです。
研究室は多くの人が共同で使う場であり、 互いを尊重し、気持ちよく研究できる環境を維持することが重要です。
私たちの目標は、技術的なスキルだけでなく、批判的に思考し、自分の時間を管理し、自分の仕事に責任を持つ、自立した研究者へと成長することです。自律性と自己規律を育むことで、将来のキャリアパスに関わらず、価値あるスキルを学生に身につけさせることを目指しています。

We believe that meaningful research is not achieved by spending long hours
in the laboratory, but by making the most of limited time through focus
and balance. Students are encouraged to maintain a clear distinction between
work and rest, and to develop a well-balanced lifestyle. In our laboratory,
we place strong emphasis on fundamental professional attitudes. Being punctual,
greeting others properly, and keeping shared spaces clean and organized
are considered essential responsibilities. These practices form the basis
of mutual respect and create an environment in which everyone can work
comfortably and productively. Beyond technical skills, our goal is to help
students grow into independent researchers who can think critically, manage
their own time, and take responsibility for their work. By fostering autonomy
and self-discipline, we aim to equip students with skills that will remain
valuable regardless of their future career paths. We believe that these
daily habits and attitudes, combined with solid scientific training, ultimately
lead to higher-quality research and personal growth.
